The University of North Florida Ospreys and the Jacksonville University Dolphins will be squaring off this Saturday in this year’s men’s soccer rendition of the River City Rumble.
JAXUSL will be in attendance at the event, which will kick off at JU’s Southern Oak Stadium on Saturday, September 23 at 7 p.m. We’ll be hosting a table where fans can learn more about our mission to bring top-level professional soccer back to Jacksonville. There will also be a prize wheel, so make sure to stop by and win a souvenir!
We had a great time meeting and talking with everyone at Community Soccer Night at UNF earlier this month! The FSU women’s soccer squad defeated the Ospreys, but it was a great night for soccer on the First Coast. The match saw the attendance record for a UNF women’s sporting event shattered as nearly 5,000 fans packed Hodges Stadium.
As for Saturday’s match, bragging rights and a good start to ASUN Conference play will be on the line. Non-conference play hasn’t exactly been ideal for either squad, with UNF sitting at 2-2-3 and JU at 2-5-1.
One player to watch for the Ospreys is Luc Granitur, who recently transferred in from the North Carolina Tar Heels. In just six games, the redshirt sophomore has already scored three goals. Midfielder Bendeguz Burka and forward Joaquin Acuña have also found the back of the net, scoring two goals each this season.
The Dolphins have faced some tough competition, including ACC powers Duke and Boston College. JU’s offensive attack has been led by forwards Olivier Correa and Carson Wood, who have scored twice each.
This rivalry dates all the way back to 1995 on the pitch. JU leads the all-time series 14-13-1, but Ospreys have won four of the last six. A win on Saturday could alter the trajectory of the victor’s season, so both squads will certainly give it their all.
Admission is free, but seats will go fast. Parking is also free, and those needing help finding their way around campus can visit the JU map. If you can’t make it to the match, it will be streamed on ESPN+, which is also the streaming partner of the USL Championship.
It will be a great night of community and soccer, so make sure to swing by and enjoy the River City Rumble with everyone at JAXUSL!
