The Sporting JAX men’s team took on Brooklyn FC away from home Saturday, falling, 4-1.

Kieran Sadlier made his presence known once again, scoring off the bench in the 71st minute of the match. The midfielder took advantage of a ball that found its way to him in the box following a long free kick, putting it away to cut into the Brooklyn lead.
“I think if you put yourself in the right areas enough times, the ball falls to you, then you just have to stay calm and back your ability to finish,” Sadlier said. “I know that as long as I am on the pitch, I will do that.”
This marks Sadlier’s ninth goal of the season, leading the team in its inaugural season in the USL Championship.
Looking Ahead
While the match ultimately didn’t go Sporting JAX’s way, it doesn’t negate the progress that the squad has made, seen in moments like last week’s win over Birmingham Legion FC. It also doesn’t hamper the side’s determination to create more of those moments.
“It’s frustrating because it felt like performances have improved of late, and tonight we lost too many basics and battles over the pitch which we knew would have a big say in the game,” captain Ryan Edwards said. “[We’ll] train hard and look for a result next week.”
Following the match, Sporting JAX Head Coach Liam Fox acknowledged the differences in Saturday’s performance from last week’s, but is also looking ahead to the upcoming week as a chance to regroup and bounce back.
“The fall off from that last week is night and day,” Fox added. “We have to pick ourselves up and we’ll go again on Monday like we have all season.”
Next week offers the opportunity to do just that, as they return to Hodges Stadium for a home fixture against Lexington SC on Saturday, September 5. This will be the first time these squads face off in a USL Championship match, offering a chance for Sporting JAX to return to the win column.
