The “Lift Every Voice” Honorary Captain Program celebrates individuals in our community who are making a meaningful difference in Jacksonville through leadership, service, and a commitment to uplifting others. Each month, Sporting
JAX will honor one community member at a women’s and men’s match whose actions rise above others and align with the club’s continued efforts to inspire unity and positive change.
Inspired by the club’s inspirational motto derived from the hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” this program connects with Jacksonville’s history and will help integrate Sporting
JAX into the Jacksonville community. In 1900, local brothers James Weldon Johnson and John Rosamond Johnson wrote the song—known today as the Black
National Anthem—which stands as both a history lesson and a call for unity.
The honorary captain program will help embody Jacksonville’s unique cultural differences utilizing the platform of sports in enhancing our devotion to lifting every voice both on and off the field.
