The University of North Florida women’s soccer squad will be hosting the Florida State Seminoles and JAXUSL will be on-site as a part of the Community Soccer Night festivities!
While the event itself will be a blast, it’s also a chance to see some of the nation’s best talent. The Seminoles are a perennial powerhouse within the women’s college soccer landscape and are currently ranked second in the latest NCAA DI Women’s Soccer Rankings.
The Ospreys themselves have shown promise this season, including a dominant 3-0 win over Air Force in their season opener. Since then, they have produced two draws and have fallen twice, with one of these losses coming against the then-ranked No. 22 UCF Knights.
UNF’s attack has seen widespread distribution, with all six goals this season being scored by different players. One of these is redshirt-freshman Paige McSwigan, who is from St. John’s County and transferred in from Cincinnati.
Speaking of local products, there will be an abundance present on Thursday as the Ospreys boast 15 players from Northeast Florida. While the Seminoles don’t have any current ties to the area on their roster, they have in the past and are no stranger to the Jacksonville soccer scene.
Thursday’s showdown will serve as UNF’s first home match in nearly three weeks, so the team and the Osprey faithful will be excited for some home-turf action. A win would also represent history being made for UNF, who has yet to defeat FSU over five all-time meetings.
As for the Seminoles, they’ve had a dominant start to the season. FSU has won their first three matches by a combined score of 9-2, including a 2-0 road win against then-No. 9 TCU.
The Seminoles have been led by a trio of goalscorers—Taylor Huff, Jordynn Dudley and Onyi Echegini—who all have scored twice this season. The Ospreys will face a tough task as they look to prevent a high-powered FSU offense from finding the back of the net.
The match will take place on the campus of UNF at Hodges Stadium and will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are not required, so there’s no prerequisites required in order to attend. This does mean that seating is first come, first served, so make sure to arrive early and secure your spot!
Fans can park in Lot 18, which is adjacent to the stadium’s north side. JAXUSL will be running a table where fans can learn more about the organization’s initiatives of bringing professional soccer to the First Coast and even win a prize to take home.
What’s not to love! Come on down for some great soccer and even better community as the Jacksonville soccer scene descends upon Hodges Stadium this Thursday.
