Things kept rolling at the Sporting JAX training facility on Tuesday as the Gainbridge Super League squad returned to the pitch for its second week of training camp.
Prior to the on-pitch action, the players received a special visit from a well-known face in the local community. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence spoke with the team, giving them some words of encouragement before their opening season.
“Just want to wish you guys the best of luck this year,” Lawrence said. “Represent the city well, we’re all rooting for you.”

With Sporting JAX’s first match looming just over two weeks away, there’s not much time for the entirely new group to mesh. While it’s still early in camp, Head Coach Stacey Balaam likes what she’s seen so far and is confident in the group.
“They’re making a lot of progress, which is what we ask for,” Balaam said. “We want to make sure we hit all the necessary topics and content that the ladies need.”
This is especially important with a young roster. Many of the team’s players joined Sporting JAX directly after college, a move that inherently comes with change. Whether it be emotional or physical, the players are adapting quickly in this new endeavor.
“What we’re asked to do at this level is very different from the college level,” Kenton said. “It’s not just about making a good pass, it’s about maximizing your decisions to help the team.”
Efficiency is key at the professional level. This applies to decisions on the pitch and mindsets off of it. The squad’s progress has been promising, and they’ll look to gel even more in the coming days and weeks before kicking off against Scottish champions Hibernian FC Women on August 2 at Hodges Stadium.
