Due to inclement weather, the match between Sporting Club Jacksonville and Hibernian FC Women originally scheduled for Saturday, August 2 at 7:00 PM has been canceled.
The combination of weather prior to kickoff, along with forecasted inclement weather throughout the remainder of the evening, made playing conditions at Hodges Stadium unsuitable.
“Unfortunately during this time of the year in Florida, weather can be changeable and challenging,” Sporting JAX President and CEO Steve Livingstone said. “As a result of the heavy thunderstorms that passed through our area, and the referees decision that the field was unplayable, we had no other option but to cancel the match.”
The clubs are mutually exploring the possibility of playing a closed-door scrimmage on the turf field adjacent to Hodges Stadium later Saturday night, pending weather conditions. Fans will not be permitted and updates will be limited.
“We are bitterly disappointed that we couldn’t get the match played to launch our club, and equally disappointed that we could not provide the fixture for Hibs after they came so far,” Livingstone added. “We’d like to apologize to our fans for the cancellation and offer any of our fans an opportunity for a full refund or exchange to another match during our upcoming Gainbridge Super League season.”
As a result of the postponement, Sporting JAX plans to add a makeup home fixture for the 2025/2026 season, maintaining the original 16-match schedule. Fans who purchased individual tickets for the Aug. 2 match will be contacted directly by the club’s ticketing office to receive a full refund or the option to exchange tickets for another match. For questions, fans can contact the club at tickets@sportingjax.com or call (904) 863-KICK to speak with a representative.
Sporting JAX will provide updates on the status of the makeup match when they become available.
